Phresh Muney

So here's the scoop on Phresh MuneyPhresh Muney is a group out of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, or as group members Choo, Sav, Staxx and Kid Cadet like to call it: Chillinburg. Pennsylvania is pumping out a talented pool of artists right now and while you may not know them all yet, it's time you get familiar. You might notice some familiar names when watching these videos, and that's Rex Arrow and Jordan Beckham , who have produced several Mac Miller videos. I was recently turned on to Phresh Muney by @Lmr_Coldest and since then have had the chance to contact and set up a Phresh Muney interview for you all. In the meantime, while we work on bringing you an interview, catch up on some Phresh Muney by viewing the videos below.

New Talib Kweli LP - "Gutter Rainbows"

Well, it's been four years since Talib Kweli's Eardrum was unleashed upon the public and now it's time for the world to experience Gutter Rainbows.  Digitally released on January 25th, Gutter Rainbows features Kweli's familiar keen, sharp verses along with an array of featured collaborators including Sean Price, Jean Grae, and Kendra Ross just to name a couple.

From the outside looking in, it's easy to take Gutter Rainbows for granted and listen to it as just another solid hip-hop album, but there's more to it.  Kweli's been labeled as the "true" indie-rapper in the past and after a listen to Gutter Rainbows, it's fairly apparent where that label is coming from.  Rainbows was created completely separate from the mainstream record industry, allowing Kweli to remain fully artistically self-sufficient.  I mention this because Kweli's recently been accused of "selling out" on this LP as he has chosen to bolster public awareness of it by participating in Pepsi Max's NFL Playoffs ad campaign as Billboard reports, a claim which I must say seems fairly unwarranted.

Honestly, there isn't a weak track on Gutter Rainbows, it's more a case of which tracks are better than good.  The title track "Gutter Rainbows" is a good start to the LP with a flashy, uptempo beat holding steady behind Kweli's always solid lyricism, and the following track, "So Low", slows down just enough to juxtapose nicely with the preceding title track--it also doesn't hurt that it's hooky as hell.  "Mr. International" featuring Nigel Hall will probably make some panties drop at some point and might be the best track Kweli does with a collaborator on the LP, although a case could be made for the final track on the record, "Self Savior" featuring Chance Infinite.

I can say with all seriousness that I've never heard a hip-hop record quite like Gutter Rainbows.  That isn't to say it's totally unique unto itself because I can't help but hear some of Kweli's influences on the tracks which isn't an entirely bad thing.  The presence of these other influences brings a certain air of familiarity to the record that makes it a really comfortable listening (and head nodding) experience.

Wiz Khalifa & Domo Genesis In Title Bout

What's happening to Twitter, seems some serious beef is going down. Twitter isn't to blame in this instance, where Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All Don't Give a F- member Damier Genesis claims Wiz Khalifa stole his LP title Rolling Papers. This appears true, as Damier Genesis has already released his project titled Rolling Papers. The 19 year old Domo took some big shots at Wiz Khalifa, through Twitter. Here's what Domo Genesis had to say to Wiz;

“@RealWizKhalifa N—a wtf, Domo already had that sh–. Ask ya boy Spitta and f—ing Dza, that’s no f—ing swag,” -- Tyler The Creator
“Everyone on my friends list, tell that n—a Wiz Khalifa to give @damiergenesis his f—ing album title back. Wolf Gang.”
“@RealWizKhalifa Yo not swag bro, I used that name already. I’m sure you see those tweets,”

It's due time for Wiz to step up and speak on his behalf. This could put a damper on Khalifa's hype right now, in all reality it won't phase Wiz other than a couple lost followers and a few more haters.

Wale's Twitter Hacked and Used To Diss Kid Cudi

Hackers, if you love the internet and all its perks, such as: social networking, online banking, shopping and all the great qualities about the world wide web, then chances are you're a familiar foe. Apparently some low-life Kid Cudi hater hacked Wale's Twitter and sent two tweets dissing Kid Cudi who recently made his return to Twitter as @wizardcud. This is an odd situation for any one but was quickly cleared up by several apologies to Kid Cudi from Wale. The hacker/Cudi hater had the following to say:

“@wizardcud is a satanic cokehead devil worshiper who sold his soul. u should never have come back to twitter p*ssyboy!!!

@wizardcud get off that liquid coke son stop playing dress up as david bowie. im gonna own u on wax you !! f*cking emo ur jeans are 2 tight!”

50 Cent Vs. Ciara (Twitter)

50 Cent seems to be on another bad marketing campaign, or he's calling it a rap, no pun intended. As most of you blog enthusiasts, and or music enthusiasts know, recently World Star Hip Hop was shut down, and 50 Cent claimed responsibility along with Floyd Mayweather (read full story here). Now 50 Cent, is having words with Ciara on Twitter. After leaving Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion last night, he sent out a couple tweets that were in my opinion questionable, but then again we are talking about 50 Cent. To sum it all up, Ciara stood her ground causing 50 to become irate calling Ciara a "bitch". This leaves most of us wondering, what's next 50? (Spotted @ Rap Radar)

Game & DJ Skee Present Purp & Patron- The Hangover (Trailer)

So Purp & Patron dropped earlier this week, and I must say it was a pretty good album. One might argue that if it weren't for appearances from Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa this album might have had an alternate ending. Purp & Patron is only the prelude, as Game is linking up with DJ Skee to bring you The Hangover on Monday. For all of you who have already outplayed Purp & Patron in this short period of time, here's The Hangover trailer, should hold you till Monday.

Incubus Plays Benefit Show for Chilean Miners

Unfortunately, I'm just seeing this concert video for the first time a whole month and a half after its initial release, but, alas, here it is for your viewing pleasure.  After the mining incident in Chile, Incubus while already touring in Chile, played a benefit concert in order to supplement the trapped miners' salaries which they were not being payed while they were stuck underground.

This video is pretty fucking sweet--Incubus plays a couple of classic tracks plus a Brandon Boyd-original, a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black", and a totally new track called "Surface to Air".  We get to see Incubus behind the scenes of the benefit concert and the creation/re-arrangement of a couple of Incubus tracks with string sections along with a badass, high-energy concert shot from a ton of different angles including in the crowd (where the energy is absolutely electric).  I hope you guys enjoy watching this vid as much as I did.  (Thanks to Enjoy Incubus)

Kidz In The Hall- Pledge Allegiance To The Dope Ft. Curren$y & Mikkey Halsted

What a great way to introduce you all to Kidz In The Hall. If you don't have any material by Kidz In The Hall, maybe "Pledge Allegiance To The Dope" featuring Curren$y and Mikkey Halsted will change that.

The Based God

Till now, I refrained from posting any Lil' B, and this is for two reasons; I personally am not a fan of his music and everyone already hypes him up so much. I can guarantee that by The Music-Rx not posting Lil' B until now, his cult following is still intact, and might grow more with this post. Here's the rundown, Lil' B formerly associated with The Pack, decided to branch off from the group, and hasn't looked back since. The so called "Based God" has built a cult like following, that includes crazed men and women willing to give up their "loved ones" to engage in explicit sexual acts (fuck) Lil' B. The cult following isn't the only thing Lil' B is gaining hype from, it could quite possibly be his obnoxious antics, lyrics, tweets and the internet. Yes tweets, The "Based God" received a lot of speculation after tweeting “If Kanye Doesn’t Acknowledge Me Over Twitter And Work With Me On Music, When I see him im going to fuck him in the ass.". No your eyes aren't deceiving you, he did indeed threaten to "rape" Kanye West. Regardless, he is an artist, and blowing up at that. Yesterday Lil' B dropped four new videos from his Angels Exodus album. If you find yourself enjoying Lil' B after this post, I take no credit for it, or your activity in his cult following.

Chevy Woods- Campaign

Moruf - "Cannon"

Alright, I found this track over at Pigeons & Planes and I'm glad I did.  I'd not heard of Moruf before recently and after listening to his mixtape--Garden State of Mind: Ready to Live--which is bangin' by the way, I had to cop it.  When you listen to this track it's impossible to not nod your head to the beat; dude's flow is solid.  Enjoy.

Two singles off Rolling Papers in one day? Guess so. This track was produced by a familiar face for Wiz, the venerable Stargate. There was a version recently leaked that included Terrace Martin. Enjoy!

Diddy Being Sued for $900 Billion

No, the title is not a typo.  A woman claiming that Diddy "crippled her children when he made the World Trade Center collapse" is suing the music mogul for $900 billion.  Sound crazy?  Well, it is, but I'm pretty sure she's serious.  Read the rest of the article here (some excerpts are below).  Trust me, it's worth a read.  Remember it's all real--no one could make this shit up.  (Thanks to The Boombox)

"According to the suit, which was posted by RadarOnline.com, Diddy is responsible, along with his former girlfriend Kim Porter and famed LAPD assault victim Rodney King, for seriously injuring Valerie Joyce Wilson Turks and her children."

"Turks alleges she has a 23-year-old son with Diddy, who she says date raped her 24 years ago. The lawsuit gets even more absurd, claiming Diddy stole a valuable casino chip from the woman, worth over "100 zillions of dollars," as well as her hospital keys."

Wilco Starts Record Label

They left Nonesuch Records a year ago, and now they're doing it all themselves.  Wilco has begun their own record label--dBpm Records.  For now it seems dBpm will only release all future Wilco projects but considering Wilco's tendency to embark on wily artistic ventures, I wouldn't be surprised to see more bands pop up on the dBpm roster at some point in the future.  Wilco will also be hitting the road again this summer; below are some dates in May.  (Thanks to Pitchfork)

Trish Keenan Mixtape

Here's a mixtape that was posted by Fact Magazine which was compiled shortly before her untimely death earlier this month.  The mix came from long-time friend, David Brewster, who had this to say:

“In December 2010 Trish sent me a mix CD she compiled, I never thanked her. Its called Mind Bending Motorway Mix and I want to share it with you, please pass the link on, share it far and wide, its a little tribute to a (as a friend referred to her today) exhilarating woman. Sorry I don’t have a tracklist and to be honest I like it that way. I think its less about who you’re listening to on this compilation and more about the fact you are listening to something that Trish took time to select and compile for me and in turn yourselves. Please just enjoy the music..."

The rest of Mr. Brewster's comments can be read over at State Magazine.
