Timbaland - "Not My Happiness"

I scooped this up from Pigeons & Planes--give it a listen and you'll see why.  There is indeed a Mumford & Sons sample on this track.  ('Bout time, Timbaland.)  I'm not gonna judge the track for you, so go ahead and try it on for size.

Arcade Fire Cover Rolling Stones, Cyndi Lauper, Creedence

Recently, as Rolling Stone reports, Arcade Fire put on a surprise show in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti in which they covered tracks from the Rolling Stones, Cyndi Lauper, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the Paragons.  The whole set was pretty cool and a couple of videos are below.  Enjoy.  (Thanks to Pitchfork)

Odd Future - "Orange Juice"

Everyones favorite rap collective Odd Future goes in over a familiar tune.

Pusha T Sits Down with AllHipHop

Pusha's still on his promo run for Fear of God and stopped by AllHipHop to chop it up with one of their writers. In interview where he speaks on growing up in Virginia, meeting Pharrell, and how life is on GOOD music:

So you know, it’s like it’s never an ego thing. We got so much going on, man, that like we just get together and pull it together. Like I just did a show with CyHi the other day for XXL, and me and Sean were the only ones in New York, and so me and Sean would be the only ones at that show with him. That’s just how it gonna go. That’s just really how we do it, man.

You can hit up Allhiphop for the full interview. Part 2 should be dropping tomorrow.

The wait is over! Finally our ears can breathe. Wait that's not right, oh well you get the picture. Shawn Chrystopher just dropped his third installment of  his I.W.G series. Broken Bells - "Heartless Empire" (video)

Broken Bells' latest EP, Meyrin Fields, is yet another example of a fantastic blending of musical genres and now they're back with the performance video for their track, "Heartless Empire", and you can watch it over at Spinner (follow the link).  Enjoy.

Childish Gambino – I Do Not Talk (Mixtape)

''My friend Errol and I have been working on I Do Not Talk for a very long time. He’s been perfecting the tracklist and has done a truly amazing job. The mixtape starts off with a Donald that is rough around the edges and takes you from there through his artistic development one song at a time. You see him rectify aspects of himself, such as changing his voice to sound nasally, and grow into the artist that we know today.
Donald might dislike his older material and without question has gotten better, but there is some serious integrity in the writing from the beginning that is made clear on this mixtape. The music selection of I Do Not Talk perfectly leads listeners into Culdesac. And in my opinion, is a must have for all fans and Hip Hop aficionados.''

Childish Gambino - "The Longest Text Message"

This comes via Pigeons & Planes--it's called "The Longest Text Message" and was apparently recorded while Mr. Glover was a tad bit enebriated as he claims...

"I forgot about this.  Me and Ludwig made this during Thanksgiving.  We spent a week in Brooklyn makin shit.  It’s not mixed or mastered and I wrote/recorded this drunk, but yeah."

Once again, Lil' B gets the visual treatment to go along with his latest project, Illusions Of Grandeur.

"You Were There: the Complete LCD Soundsystem" (article)

I'm not one to generally focus attention away from the smaller, more personally devoted music news sites but sometimes praise is in order for the monoliths of the industry.  I certainly have my misgivings about the Pitchfork music news site but they definitely nailed it with this one.  "You Were There: The Complete LCD Soundsystem" is an absolutely fantastic article chronicling the careers of James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem, and it does so in a track-by-track fashion.  It's a fantastic effort that any fan of LCD Soundsystem would find quite fascinating (and you can read it by following the link in the text and below).

Fam Famous- Key To Success (Video)

First things first, shout out to all of Cleveland, all of the 216 is putting in work. I'm not necessarily talking about the mainstream acts from Cleveland, my focus is on the underground artists like Fam Famous and all the other dedicated musicians and so on. Since starting up the site, we have received nothing but love and support from our friends in the 216 so I feel entitled to doing just the same for them. Now this is where you all come in, if you all really support us then high- five, but expand your support to our friends and family here at The Music-Rx. Alright, I've said enough, time to shed some light on the artist in this post, Fam Famous. Last March a few friends and myself drove to Kent, Ohio to see Wiz Khalifa, but before purchasing the tickets we tried to find out the opening acts, but gave up and decided to go with the element of suprise. Turned out that Fam Famous as well as our friends from Smoke Screen were the opening acts. Alright we've done our part, now you do yours and check out this dope new video from Fam Famous for "Key To Success".

Mac Miller- Child Celebrity

Here's the latest offering from Mac Miller, "Child Celebrity". Take a guess at what this one's about, and while you do just that get ready for the release of On and On and Beyond, which is Mac's EP set to drop tomorrow.

SXSW 2011 Wrap-Up

The 2011 SXSW Music Festival was earlier this month and the who's who of the indie and hip-hop music communities were in attendance along with a smorgasbord of the most promising independent and unsigned up and comers in the music world today, so we broke our coverage of the event down accordingly.

The SXSW Festival-goers were treated to a host of established indie acts from (the newly reformed) Death From Above 1979, Bright Eyes, the Strokes (shown below), the Boxer Rebellion (shown below), Bombay Bicycle Club, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart (shown below), and the Joy Formidable (shown below) [those are some of my favorites, but this entire lineup was fantastic, as usual].

the Boxer Rebellion

the Pains of Being Pure at Heart

the Joy Formidable

the Strokes

Not to be outdone, many established and up and coming names from the hip-hop world also graced the many stages at SXSW.  Big Krit tore the stage down and linked up with Spitta at Mohawk performing their collabo "Glass House" as well as solo tracks like "Country Shit".  Just touched down while Spitta performed "Famous", a few cuts off Smokee Robinson, and brought out Roddy and Trade to do "Roasted". Kanye was over at the VEVO tent putting on a GOOD show that included Pusha T, Jay-Z, and John Legend, while Bun B performed at Kiss & Fly and managed to get Wiz, Big Sean and Trae the Truth on stage to perform "Phone Numbers". Odd Future tore a couple of sets down and managed to bust a fan's head open, Diddy managed to find his way on stage with the new jacks and Lil B and did a performance of his own that included the classics "Victory" and "All About the Benjamins". Needless to say it was an epic event. Here are a few performances that took place over the 10 day long festival.

Kanye West - "H.A.M."

"Runaway"

Krit - "Country Shit"

Just - "Touched Down"

Curren$y - "Famous"

Odd Future - "Sandwitches"

We at the Music-RX would also like to wish a very fond welcome to the newest member of our staff, Jay.  He helped to write this Wrap-Up and he'll be regularly posting very soon, so comment and show him some love.

Fresh Faces Webisode- Phresh Muney

The time has come for the long-awaited Music-RX interview with Phresh Muney and it was a great time.  Phresh Muney is a four-piece hip-hop group hailing from Chambersburg, PA (or Chillinburg if you're in the know) whose primed to take the music world by storm.  The four members (Choo, Sav, Kidd Cadet, and Staxx, respectively) each possess dynamic personalities that compliment their unique styles well, but their strength is their group relationship.  Though they are inherently each themselves, the strong point of their relationship is the bond they have with each other and their devotion to their collective roots.  Their debut LP F.U.N. is coming out April 26th for your consumption, but take a minute to check out the interview and learn a little more about Phresh Muney.

Shout out to StereoBreed Media for the awesome job on the edit.

French Montana – Choppa Choppa Down (Remix) Ft. Gucci Mane & Wiz Khalifa

After hearing Wiz's highly anticipated album, Rolling Papers a week before it's release, I'm in need of more tracks like this from Khalifa. Sorry, but Rolling Papers just didn't live up to my expectations, but Wiz hasn't completely died in my books, I still have faith in him and I'm more than excited to hear more singles like this in the future. This is the official remix to French Montana's "Choppa Choppa Down" featuring Gucci Mane & Wiz Khalifa.

John Legend - "Rolling in the Deep"

I found "Rolling in the Deep" a couple of months ago when the remix (by Jamie xx featuring Childish Gambino) to Adele's original version came out and now, low and behold, a new version has come into the world and this time it's from John Legend.  Take a listen, it's a pretty cool tune.  (Thanks to ImFlashy)

John Legend - Rolling In The Deep by ImFlashy

Jim Jones (feat. Clinton Sparks) - "Perfect Day"

Here's a track I found over at Pigeons & Planes initially--"Perfect Day" by Jim Jones.  I've always thought Jim Jones had one of the most original styles in the game and this track proves that.  Listen and enjoy.

The Strokes - "Taken for a Fool" (Live on Letterman)

The Strokes' latest LP, Angles, was released earlier this week and last night they graced the stage of the Tonight Show and played their track "Taken for a Fool".  Here's the vid of the performance--enjoy.
