Fresh Faces #2 - Krisp Tees

Here it is--our second installment of 'Fresh Faces' feature series and this time we're shedding some light on the hip/hop inspired up and coming clothing company, Krisp Tees.

"Rethink Your Style.  Get Krisp."
Begun in November of 2010, Krisp Tees is the brainchild of young Arizona clothing designer, Kolby Nielsen.  Mr. Nielsen started Krisp Tees as a way to express how he felt both about life and hip/hop culture.  Inspired by the likes of Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, J. Cole, Wale, Curren$y, Big Sean, and Shawn Christopher, Krisp Tees is a breath of fresh air for a new generation of music.  Here's a little more about Kolby and Krisp Tees.

What inspired you to get into the clothing design game?
I've always been into designing things. In high school I used to make sigs for athletes like LeBron James, Larry Fitzgerald and Amare' Stoudemire. At one point I took one of the sigs and put it on a shirt. Thats basically how it all began. I figured if I was going to spend so much time on a project, might as well make some money off of it.

Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?
Music, music & more music. I am constantly checking blogs for the newest music. I listen to a lot of hip-hop, R&B and some rock, but mostly rap. I also watch a lot of ESPN and comedy shows.

What effect do you think hip-hop and music in general have had upon your designs and fashion in general?
I see artists like Wiz, Curren$y & XV wearing dope shirts and thats where I want to end up. If I hear a tight line in a song, I write it down. Then I spend time visualizing  "How can I take what they just said and make it into a design that other people would like."  So more than an inspirations, its aspirations that draws me to make better and better designs.

What's it like being a young, up and coming clothing designer?  Where do you see Krisp Tees in a year?
Its challenging because you only have one shot to impress potential buyers. If they see a whack design, they might not ever check out your stuff ever again. In a year, I hope to have Krisp Tees in a couple of stores here in Arizona. I have already had a couple of orders from France, Germany & Australia.

What advice would you give to those who aspire to design clothes for a living?
Don't give up. Keep doing designs and come up with as many as possible. All it takes is one design for you to propel your brand into the game. Also get a good team behind you. It takes more than 1 person to run a company, no matter how small or big you are.

What new stuff does Krisp Tees have in store for us in the near future?
We got some new shirts coming out at the end of February, gonna be dope. Collaboration projects with some up & coming hometown artists like PBC Tha Clique, Ozone & SpadeMacc. Be on the lookout for some contest giveaways and options about reppin' the Krisp Tees name.

  1. Krisp Tees is a SCAM! They ripped me off of close to $50 for two White Boy Awesome Tee's. I ordered these over 2 months ago and never received anything. I have sent private messages multiple times to them on Facebook and always get a bs answer like "They were on back order, and will ship out this Friday." I got that message over a month ago and still no shirts. They have all commenting on their Facebook wall blocked, so I cannot let others know before they get screwed over. It looks like I'm not the only one either, there is a few posts on the FB wall before they blocked commenting from others who have been ripped. If anyone else has been ripped off and gotten anything solved, please email me at jmnewcomer@ymail.com

    Thanks!
