Curren$y Inks With Warner Bros.

When you see a major label Warn A Brotha. Well if you didn't catch that, or haven't heard yet Curren$y has inked another major label deal, except this time it's with Warner Bros. In early 2007, Curren$y signed a deal with Lil Wayne's Cash Money Records which is a subdivision of Universal. In December of 2007 Curren$y announced he would go independent. Recently, Curren$y has been on the rise with his high flying J.E.T.S gang which is affiliated with Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang. Curren$y claimed he would never sign with another major label deal, and they all say that until they see the currency. This deal isn't the worst, the deal gives him his own record label with Jets International. Work is already being done on his debut CD Covert Coup with The Alchemist that has an appropriate 4/20 release.

The Five One - "Closing Time"

Every one remembers the original "Closing Time" from the mid-90s done by the rock outfit Semisonic.  Well, here's an excellent cover version.  The Five One changed up the beat a little, added a couple of rap verses, and BAM--excellence.  Hit this track up--it's a good one.  (Thanks to Pigeons and Planes)

Big K.R.I.T & Grillade - "Hometown Hero" (Live)

Here's a really cool video of Big K.R.I.T and Grillade performing "Hometown Hero" as part of Pitchfork's TunnelVision series.  The camera work is stellar and the performance oozes raw emotion.  Highly recommend.  Enjoy.

RZA and Game Involved In Lawsuit

So by now you all know what Purp & Patron is, and should just be getting introduced to Purp & Patron: The Hangover. On Purp & Patron is a song called "Heartbreaker" produced by RZA. The only problem with this track being on the record is it's not supposed to be there. No, you read that right, it's not supposed to be on the record due to not being able to clear the track. Game was to notify RZA if it was going to be included on the album so he could refrain from selling it. Last week, Game confirmed the cease-and-desist letter from Universal Music Group. RZA layed it out on Twitter, but still claims love for Game.

"The issue boils down to we, wanted to get the song on the album that was coming out for Game at the time. We went to the studio that night and Game felt the track and it was all good. The issue came about when it did not make it to the album because there was not enough time to clear the track. We spoke with Tony Martin, who informed us that the track would not be used and if it was, we would be notified. Now, that being said, they put it on a mix tape and never said anything to us; and we got an offer to have the tracked purchased by someone else.
So this is not anything personal, and RZA has nothing but love for Game, but this is business and in all fairness, it would have been cool if they would have just let us know what the intent was, because we began soliciting the track for purchase and its looks like this was a double sale issue when it wasn’t."
